Denver housing ordinance is limiting building permits

A study by the Common Sense Institute reveals that Denver's Expanding Housing Affordability ordinance is reducing new housing permits by one-third, resulting in 2,890 to 3,180 fewer units annually. This policy, which mandates affordable units in new developments or fees, is negatively impacting housing supply and increasing rents. The study suggests revising zoning regulations and expediting permitting processes to enhance affordable housing development, as current measures are insufficient to meet demand.
